He's right that is why we prefer to use St. Croix rods. They really are the best rods on earth!

When we first started we bought cheap rods. They turned out to not be so cheap because they fell apart and we needed new rods pretty quick. Some St. Croix rods have a lifetime warranty which means if our rod ever breaks because of a defect we will not have to buy a new one, St Croix will replace it. We were lucky at least our rods didn't break while reeling in a big fish. When we were in Canada at Andy Meyers lodge we heard a story from a guy we met there. He had a big fish on he thought it was over 50". When he got it to the boat the cheap rod he had snapped. He felt awful. He couldn't believe he lost a fish of a lifetime because a saved a few bucks on a rod. Don't let that happen to you. Buy a good quality rod you won't be sorry.

We recommend a rod between 6' and 7'. We like to use a stiff rod, it makes bigger lures easier to reel. Feel free to email us if you have any questions about the equipment we like to use.
